Cleaning up what a run leaves behind
How cleaning works in an R.E.P.O. level, given that cleaning has its own director and effect, that a clean spot is identified by the game, and that the level's pieces carry a clean state of their own.

0.4.0 (see the sources page)
Before you start
- Something to clean with
- A level you have already been through
- A moment when nothing is chasing you
Steps
- Treat cleaning as a short piece of the game rather than as a menu action.
cleaning has a director and a clean effect of its own - Watch the surface rather than the tool: the sparkle is what tells you it worked.
the clean effect is drawn from a sprite sheet of its own - Go back over a spot the game has not registered as clean yet.
a clean spot has an identifier of its own - Look for the cleaning cupboard rather than carrying everything yourself.
the museum keeps cleaning supplies of its own, a mop among them - Expect a cleaned wall or corner to look different from an untouched one.
the level's wall and corner pieces carry a clean version beside them
Common mistakes
- Walking past a mess because the tool is not in your hand.
- Cleaning a surface the game has already marked clean instead of moving on.
- Hunting for the mop in the shop when the level keeps supplies of its own.
- Assuming a cleaned room means a safe one.
