Keeping everyone standing through a run
How to use health packs, the truck's healer and the revive item in R.E.P.O. so that a bad moment costs the crew a detour rather than the run.
Applies to
0.4.0, read from the copy of the game this site was built from (see the sources page)
Before you start
- A crew of two or more
- At least one health pack bought
- A run already under way
Steps
- Watch the health readout rather than counting hits, because health is a tracked number with a display of its own.
a player's health is tracked and shown in its own interface - Carry a health pack before you need one, because recovery uses a carried pack rather than a command.
recovery uses a carried health pack - Treat the truck as a healer and not only as the way out, because it has a healer of its own.
the truck has a healer of its own rather than only a drop-off point - Do not count on every heal working, because the game has effects for a full heal and a separate one for a heal that failed.
healing has its own effects, including one for a failed heal - Keep an eye on how many packs are around, since the game works out how many are available and keeps a count.
the game works out how many health packs are available and keeps an amount - Decide when to stop hitting a monster by its health rather than by its looks, because it has a health total and a freeze time for dying.
a monster carries a health total and a freeze time for dying - Use weight deliberately, because a light, a medium and a heavy impact each do their own damage.
impacts hurt a monster with separate damage for light, medium and heavy - Remember that a kill can leave something behind, because a monster can be set to spawn a valuable up to a maximum.
it can be set to leave a valuable behind up to a maximum number - Revive with the carried device rather than looking for a button: it is an item, and it shows what it is doing.
reviving is done with a carried item that has lights, lines, particles and a shockwave - Spend upgrade money on health and stamina as a plan rather than a repair, because both are upgrades of their own.
health and stamina can both be upgraded, each with its own wording
Common mistakes
- Leaving the health packs in the truck and meeting the first real monster without one.
- Assuming a heal always lands, when a failed heal is a thing the game draws and plays.
- Hitting a monster until it looks dead instead of reading its health and its dying freeze.
- Treating reviving as a command and forgetting the device has to be carried and aimed.
