Reading what a monster is actually doing
How to read the phase a R.E.P.O. monster is in, so the crew reacts to what it is doing rather than simply to the sight of it.
Applies to
0.4.0, read from the copy of the game this site was built from (see the sources page)
Before you start
- A run in progress
- A monster you have already seen
- A way to tell the crew what you are looking at
Steps
- When one appears, wait to see whether it settles into roaming or comes straight for you.
spawning and roaming are states of their own - Treat a slower pursuit as the same chase rather than as a reprieve.
chasing has its own stages, including a slower pursuit - Assume you are being searched for when it goes quiet.
investigating and sneaking are separate from chasing - Move away from anything a monster could look under.
there is a state for looking underneath - Use a stun knowing it is one state among many, not the end of the monster.
being stunned sits in the same state list
Common mistakes
- Mistaking a slow chase for having lost it.
- Hiding under something without checking whether it looks there.
- Treating a stun as though it were a kill.
