Reading the readouts without looking away
Which readout in R.E.P.O. answers which question, so the screen is read rather than stared at.
Applies to
0.4.0, read from the copy of the game this site was built from (see the sources page)
Before you start
- A run in progress
- Something in your hands
- A crew to keep track of
Steps
- Know which readout answers which question rather than scanning all of them.
health, the haul, the goal and item details each have a readout of their own under one state readout - Look for the second item readout when the first one is not enough.
item details have a second readout for extra information - Use the value screen to price what is in front of you.
what something is worth has its own screen element - Check the shop's own readouts between runs instead of guessing what it costs.
the shop has readouts for what it costs and how it is growing - Read the level and run readouts before you commit to a plan.
there are readouts for the level and for the run record - Read the numbers that float over things, not only the fixed readout.
the floating value text has intro and outro curves, a colour and a text size for a value and another pair for a cost - Notice when value is lost, because it has an object of its own.
there is a world-space interface parent and a separate object for value that has been lost - Learn the discovery graphic's three colour pairs so the news is read at a glance.
the graphic has a colour pair for a discovery, one for a reminder and one for bad news, each with a corner and a middle colour, and it can be anchored to the middle or to any corner
Common mistakes
- Watching the readout you always watch while the haul readout is the one changing.
- Missing the second line of item detail and guessing what the item does.
- Reading a floating number as a value when it was a cost.
- Treating every coloured flash as good news.
