Enemies that move differently

At least one monster moves by tumbling rather than walking.

R.E.P.O. does not only vary how monsters attack: the game gives some of them different ways of moving, including jumping and rolling, and tracks sneaking behaviour.

What the game establishes

In play

Movement is a behaviour of its own in this game, which is why one monster can roll at you while another closes the distance on foot.

Jumping exists as its own behaviour with its own surface handling, so where a monster lands is something the game works out rather than scripts.

Sneaking is tracked too, so a quiet monster is a different problem from a loud one rather than the same chase with the volume turned down.

The rolling monster is heard as well as seen. It has a sound for noticing you, one for swinging its cleaver and one for any impact against the part it can be hurt on, with a tumble loop in a local and a shared version.

It is also assembled rather than one solid piece. Its hat and its body hang on springs, its head is aimed at two separate targets, and it can draw its own debug shapes at a smallest and a largest distance.

What this entry does not tell you: how fast anything moves, how high it jumps or how far a sneak carries. We have not verified those numbers, so we do not print them.
