The valuable tracker
The tracker is an item with a kind of its own.
The valuable tracker in R.E.P.O. is a device rather than a marker: the game gives it a nozzle, a screen, its own beeps, and different colours when it finds or loses what you are after.

In play
The tracker is an item of its own. It has a kind and behaviour of its own rather than being a marker drawn on a map, which is why it is carried and pointed instead of simply read.
It has a nozzle. The tracker carries a nozzle with a light of its own, so it is aimed rather than held up in the air.
It has a screen. The device carries a display, a text readout and a light for that display, so the answer is shown on the tracker and not only sounded out.
It talks to you. The tracker beeps and swaps its digits, which is why you can follow it without looking at it.
Finding and losing are different. The game keeps separate sounds and colours for a target found and a target lost, so the change is unmistakable when it happens.
The lights carry meaning. There is a neutral screen colour and a found colour, so the device can be read at a glance in a dark room.
It is one of several carried items. The tracker sits alongside the staffs, the orb and the rest, which is why deciding what to bring is a real choice rather than a formality.
What this entry does not tell you: how far it reaches, what it can be pointed at, or how long it works. We have not verified those numbers, so we do not print them.
