The odds and ends a level hides
The smaller set pieces in R.E.P.O. — named potions, a set of gnomes and the head in the museum — so a strange thing in a level can be read for what it is.

Before you start
- A level with valuables in it
- Somewhere to stand back
- A crew that will not smash everything
Steps
- Expect potions to be valuables in their own right rather than props.
four potions are named as kinds of valuable in their own right - Stand back from the levitation potion.
the levitation potion carries a sphere for levitation - Pick the small potion up carefully, because it carries a health pool and a healing aura and breaks into particles.
the small potion holds a health pool and a healing aura and breaks into particles - Treat the gnomes as one set piece rather than as separate monsters.
a director keeps the gnomes as a set, with a list of them and a state of its own - Expect them to close on you at different speeds.
each gnome moves at a speed between a minimum and a maximum - Watch how they avoid each other rather than expecting a straight line.
they have a collider for avoiding each other and an offset for backing away - Listen for the pickaxe, because its warning and its hit are separate sounds.
the pickaxe has a tell and a hit as separate sounds - Give the museum's head room, because opening it is staged.
it is a head that opens and closes with its own transforms and sounds, an animation curve and a lights curve, open particles and a spot light, and eyes with a red state, a cooldown curve and a colour used while cooling
Common mistakes
- Treating a named potion as ordinary loot and carrying it into a fight.
- Meeting the gnomes as if they were a single monster.
- Missing the pickaxe's warning sound.
- Standing next to the museum head while it is opening.
